While garlic may not always agree with my digestive system, its shape and colors never fail to captivate me. Despite its infrequent use in my cooking, it holds a special place in my heart.
When my mum used to come from Italy to visit us, she always found it weird that I, her daughter, had no garlic in the kitchen, so I had to rush to the grocery shop otherwise she would not start cooking. “Where is the garlic?” she would ask.
Today, a bulb of garlic hangs proudly in my kitchen — a tribute to the bond between mother and daughter, and a reminder of the traditions that shape our family.
